Hanoi’s iconic One-pillar Pagoda is facing serious deterioration despite its Venerable Thich Tam Kien’s efforts to seek help over many years.
In 2012, the pagoda was recognised as one of Asia’s most unique pieces of architecture by Asia Book of Records.
Some years ago, the main pagoda, the popular symbol of the complex, was repaired to deal with rain water damage. However, Tam Bao Temple and the worship house are both in very bad condition.
For many years, during the rainy season, statutes within the building have had to have raincoats put on them and nuns and monks have used buckets to collect rain water. Some parts of the complex have also been flooded.
